Privacy Policy

Last updated: April 18, 2026

Overview

buzZza (“we”, “our”, “us”) is a beekeeping management mobile application developed by zZz Bees LLC (“zZz Bees”), which acts as the data controller for any personal information processed in connection with this policy. We take your privacy seriously. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app accesses, what stays on your device, what may be sent to third-party services, how we protect it, and how you can exercise your choices.

Scope

This policy applies to the buzZza mobile app for iOS and Android (the “App”). It also applies to this website when you read this policy. It does not govern third-party websites or services that we link to; those services have their own policies.

Data stored on your device

The core of buzZza is local-first: your beekeeping records stay on your device unless you explicitly export or share them.

  • Hive, yard, and inspection data: Information you enter about hives, yards, inspections, and actions.
  • Location for waypoints: GPS coordinates you associate with yards, only when you grant location access and use location features.
  • Photos and videos: Media you capture or attach to inspections, stored as part of your local app data.

We do not operate our own cloud backend that syncs or stores your hive database, inspection history, or attached media. That content remains under your control on the device until you delete it, clear app storage, uninstall the App, or use export/share features you initiate.

Permissions we request

The App may request the following permissions. Each is used only for the stated purpose and only when needed for that feature.

  • Camera (android.permission.CAMERA / iOS camera): Scanning QR codes on hive tags and capturing photos or videos for inspections. We do not access the camera in the background.
  • Photos / media library: Choosing existing photos or videos to attach to inspections (on Android, the system may use permissions such as READ_MEDIA_IMAGES and READ_MEDIA_VIDEO depending on OS version). We only access items you select.
  • Location (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION / ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION when applicable, and iOS location when in use): Setting yard waypoint coordinates when you use map or location features. We do not use background location.

Data sent off your device

Some limited technical data is transmitted over the internet so the App can function securely and reliably. We do not sell your personal information. The following describes what may leave your device:

  • Sentry (Functional Software, Inc.): We use Sentry for crash reporting and error diagnostics. When a crash or certain errors occur, the App may send technical information such as stack traces, device model, operating system version, app version, and related diagnostic context to Sentry’s servers. This is not used to upload your hive database, inspection content, or media files as product features; it is for reliability and engineering. Processing is subject to Sentry’s privacy policy: sentry.io/privacy.
  • Expo Updates / EAS (Expo): The App may check for over-the-air updates. That can involve sending basic technical metadata (for example platform, runtime or app version, and update channel) to Expo’s infrastructure. See expo.dev/privacy.
  • Mapbox (Mapbox, Inc.): Map views load map tiles and related resources from Mapbox. Requests may include your IP address, approximate location derived by Mapbox from network information, and standard HTTP metadata as described in Mapbox’s privacy policy: mapbox.com/legal/privacy.

What we do not do

  • We do not sell your personal information.
  • We do not use your data for third-party advertising or cross-app behavioral advertising.
  • We do not run the camera or location in the background for tracking.

Security

Network requests from the App to third-party services (Sentry, Expo, Mapbox) use industry-standard transport encryption (HTTPS/TLS) where applicable. Your beekeeping data at rest remains in the App’s sandbox on your device, subject to your device’s operating system protections. No security practice is perfect; use a device passcode and keep the App updated to reduce risk.

Data retention and deletion

  • Local beekeeping data: Retained on your device until you delete records inside the App, clear the App’s storage, or uninstall the App. You may also export data using features we provide, then delete local copies as you choose.
  • Crash and diagnostic data (Sentry): Retained according to Sentry’s settings and policies (commonly on the order of up to 90 days for error events unless we configure a different retention period).
  • Map and update providers: Retention of server logs and telemetry is governed by each provider’s policy (Mapbox, Expo).

Children’s privacy

buzZza is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us at the address below and we will take appropriate steps.

Third-party privacy policies

Your rights and choices

Because your primary beekeeping data is stored locally, you control it directly: edit or delete records in the App, export data, clear app storage, or uninstall. For rights that may apply in your region (such as access, correction, or deletion relating to data held by our processors), contact us and we will respond as required by law. You can also limit or revoke permissions in your device settings; some features may not work without them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the App or our practices change. We will post the revised policy on this page and update the “Last updated” date. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice (for example, in the App or on this site).
